Well it is officially Spring and what better way to celebrate the season than giving the gift of Spring with a bouquet of fresh flowers (aka a Bouquet of Happy)!
Recently, work has been a little stressful with looming deadlines, intense schedules, and a lot of transition. Therefore, I wanted to do something to bring a little joy into the office and thought it would be a good idea to give everyone a small flower bouquet! This was a big hit at the office and everyone was appreciative of the small act of kindness. What was really exciting is that I was able to make a beautiful bouquet for everyone for less than $5 each! By purchasing bundles of assorted flower stems from Trader Joe’s for $3.99 each and cute vases for $1 dollar from the Dollar Tree I was able to put together awesome gifts that made a small dent in by wallet but a huge impact on the hard working individuals I gave them to!
Here are the quick and easy steps to putting together a beautiful fresh flower arrangement for someone special in your life:
- an assortment of flower stems
- small vase (if you have a small bouquet get a vase with a smaller opening so your arrangement looks full)
- flower food packets (usually comes with the flowers)
- scissors or clippers
- small rubber bands
Step 1: Place the flower food in the vase
Step 2: Fill vase with water and stir
Step 3: Clip the ends of the flower stems at an angle
Step 4: Place a rubber band around the stems (just below where the opening of the vase would be)
Step 5: Place the flowers in the vase and arrange to your liking.
Disclaimer: I’m by no means an expert at arranging flowers. This is just a quick tutorial of how I put together some cute and simple arrangements for the ladies at work. So why are flowers such a great gift?! Well, did you know that flowers have an immediate impact on our happiness? I know you’re probably thinking well yeah of course that’s common sense…flowers make us happy. However, did you know there is actual research to back it up?! According to a behavioral research study by Rutgers University, flowers improve our emotional health by increasing our sense of life satisfaction, decreasing negative emotions (like depression and anxiety), and improving our interpersonal connections with others. They also make your homes seem more inviting when placed in areas that are accessible to guests. A Texas A & M University research study even showed that fresh flowers and plants improved employee productivity and the generation of innovative and creative ideas. To learn more about the benefits of fresh flowers check out this resource from AboutFlowers.com that provides tons of information and links to numerous research studies.
Now that you know the numerous benefits of fresh flowers, go ahead and make someone’s day by giving them a “bouquet of happy”! While you’re at it, pick up a bouquet for yourself as well because self-love is the best love!
